A 2022 Single From a Rome Quartet Outranks Older Album Tracks on Its Own Page

On 29 October 2026, the Spotify page of Hometown Heroes ranked ten songs, and Where Are You? sat seventh. Hometown Heroes, a pop punk quartet from Rome, released the single in August 2022. That day its tally stood at 5,876 plays. Yet two older album tracks ranked below it, U & I and Hard Times, Good Times, and each one counts close to four times as many.

Hometown Heroes are in the playlist below, and the Hometown Heroes artist profile collects the coverage so far. Where Are You? came to this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Hit play, then read on.

The reason is in how the list is built. Spotify scores a track mostly on its total plays and on how recent those plays are. So a 2022 single that holds a place above bigger album totals is still being played now.

It also raises a plain question: who is the song for? Hometown Heroes answer in their own Spotify biography, which names blink-182, All Time Low and Fall Out Boy as the influences behind its sound. Where Are You? speaks to listeners raised on those three. It is pop punk with emo and alternative rock folded in, and it runs 3:36.

Each of those bands began small, which makes the comparison useful. Blink-182 formed in Poway, California, in 1992. It released its first two albums through an independent imprint before it signed to MCA Records. All Time Low started as a high school band in Towson, Maryland, and released its debut EP through a local label in 2004. Fall Out Boy’s 2003 debut, Take This to Your Grave, became an underground success through heavy touring.

Hometown Heroes are building the same way, from Rome. The quartet started under the name High Effect, then took its new name and released a homemade three-track EP called High Effect on 27 October 2017. The first album, First Things First, followed on 16 March 2018, after the single Life Anthem had opened the way. That album still carries most of the band’s plays. Its closing track, Crowd Surfing, is the most played song in the ranking, at 53,114.

The Early Response to Where Are You? Started With an Official Video and an Independent Radio Pick

The official video for Where Are You? went up on YouTube on 4 August 2022. Simone Serafini directed it, with Fernando Perris as camera assistant and operator. Behind the recording, the team was a familiar one. Roberto Riccardo recorded and mixed the track, and Andrea Fusini mastered it. That is the same pair who recorded and mastered First Things First. Spotify credits founding member Riccardo Riva as composer and arranger.

Outside the band’s own channels, Rock’n’Roll Vibration, an outlet for independent rock, highlighted the song, which carried it beyond the band’s home city.

Its place in the release run matters as well. Where Are You? was the second Hometown Heroes single of 2022, after Nikita in January, and Nikita now sits one place below it in the ranking. After that came a long pause. The next single, Underdogs, arrived in July 2025, almost three years later, and it already ranks third.

Read together, those positions describe a catalogue that is still being explored from more than one end. Listeners arrive through the 2018 album, through the newest single, or through Where Are You? in between.

Around Hometown Heroes, a Community Built on Instagram, Facebook and Collaborations With Feelbacks and Unrazze

The streaming tally is only part of the picture. The band’s largest audience is on social media, with more than 4,700 followers on Instagram and about 4,500 on Facebook.

Those profiles still lead with this song. The Facebook page keeps Where Are You? in its intro, next to the release link, and the TikTok bio still points visitors to it. Meanwhile, the Instagram bio has moved on to Underdogs and says the band is back in the studio.

Collaborations widen the circle further. The top entry in the band’s Spotify ranking is Summer Song, a Feelbacks track that features Hometown Heroes. Earlier, the band worked with the artist Unrazze on Gray (Jungle Edit) in 2020 and on You and I (Unrazze Remix) in 2021.

There is also a plan still open. The band’s Spotify biography says a second album would begin in January with a new single, and Nikita duly arrived in January 2022. Since then, Hometown Heroes have put out Where Are You? and Underdogs, each as a single, while the album itself has not appeared yet. The studio sessions on Instagram are therefore the part to watch.

From the BestMusic.News Curator Team: “Six of the ten songs in that ranking come from the 2018 album. Where Are You? is one of only three later singles to break in, and that is the clearest sign of where the band’s listeners are heading.”

Start with the official video, then play Crowd Surfing to hear where the band began.
