Running Away by ODDGHXST: Four Outlets, Four Languages, One Groove

A London Indie Pop Single Built on a Mid-Tempo Groove, Revisited Three Years After Release

Four outlets in four languages carried Running Away by ODDGHXST through its first months. The independent London project released the single on 14 July 2023, and the write-ups arrived in English, German, Italian and Spanish. Each one heard something different in it. Three years on, those reactions are the clearest guide to who the song is for.

ODDGHXST has Running Away in the playlist below, filed with the rock and indie records this desk keeps on rotation. Features on the act are gathered on the ODDGHXST profile. The single came to BestMusic.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Listen first, then read on.

Who Running Away by ODDGHXST Is For, Starting With Fans of Mid-Tempo Indie Pop Grooves

The first audience likes indie pop that moves. Berlin On Air called it modern, movement-rich indie pop that drops listeners straight into a mid-tempo groove. The German review said the groove works for close listening and might also get you dancing. At two minutes and 53 seconds, the song makes that point and then leaves.

That puts it near some familiar names. Listeners who like the groove-first British indie pop of Glass Animals will recognise the approach, where a relaxed rhythm carries a melodic vocal rather than racing it. Fans of Two Door Cinema Club will hear a related instinct, since that band also builds indie pop for movement first. Neither is a sound-alike. Instead, both point to the same listener: someone who wants a pop song with a pulse.

Listeners Facing Their Fears and Fans of Calm Unease Make Up the Other Two Audiences

The second audience is anyone stuck in a habit of avoidance. End Sessions, writing in Spanish from Mexico, read the song as a call to stop running from fears and problems and to deal with them more wisely. Its reviewer also heard a calming, upbeat instrumental and a placid, cheerful vocal. The same review said the verses push listeners to be honest with themselves and leave the complications behind. In that reading, the title names the very problem the song is trying to solve.

The third audience likes a little tension inside a calm song. Artistionline, writing in Italian, called it a refined indie pop track and heard relaxing melodies clashing with a restless, agitated backing. According to that review, the result is a sense of serene unease. So for listeners who enjoy songs that sound easy but feel uneasy, that contrast is the draw.

The genre tags cover all three groups. ODDGHXST files the song under groove, melodic indie pop rock and indie pop, so it fits a dance set as easily as a late-night listen.

Early Response in German, Italian and Spanish Carried Running Away by ODDGHXST Beyond the UK

The early response came from several countries. Eat This Rock put the single on its list of five new songs to hear on 28 November 2023, tagged as pop rock and soft rock. Berlin On Air reviewed it in German, and the outlet adds every song it reviews to a Spotify selection that it refreshes about every three weeks. End Sessions followed in Spanish on 2 December 2023, and Artistionline covered it in Italian.

That spread matters for a small independent release. Each outlet reached a different set of readers, and each used different words for the same record. German readers got a groove, Italian readers got tension, and Mexican readers got encouragement. As a result, the single reached readers in four languages within five months of release.

The Community Still Listening to a 2023 Catalogue Single

Today, Running Away still sits among the ten ODDGHXST tracks Spotify lists as most popular, next to newer singles such as Apart from October 2025 and TINTED GLASS from September 2026. That is a useful sign for a catalogue single, because it means listeners keep finding it alongside fresher work. The project has also kept a steady release schedule, including lift my face in September 2024, which got an official video. On Apple Music, the Running Away single also carries Kamino, the May 2023 track that has its own official video.

For new listeners, that catalogue is the reason to start here. Running Away is short, clear about its idea and easy to return to. It is also the release the project promoted on its YouTube channel in July 2023, with a short clip announcing it was out everywhere.

BestMusic.News’s curator team: “The groove sits at mid-tempo and never hurries the vocal. That is why reviewers in three languages could hear a dance groove, a calm unease and a pep talk in the same two minutes and 53 seconds.”

Where to Stream Running Away by ODDGHXST and Follow the Project Across Every Platform

For a first listen, play Running Away on Spotify on a walk rather than at a desk, so the groove has something to move with. Then try Apart, which tops the Popular list on the ODDGHXST Spotify page.
